What if a person recognized both people? One was a genius that contributed to the betterment of humankind and the other is just infamous while proving our species is devolving.
Science and celebrity don't mix. Like the nerd who let you copy his homework, these credentialed people are found by the media and politicians to advance their agenda. Carl was entertaining and seemed affable, but history's proved he was dead wrong on the unilateral freeze movement.
But it was then the ticket to fame and fortune, just as there are passwords today. If scientists, hard or soft, don't know the secret handshake they're censored by bureaucrats denying grants and media refusing publication. I'm very skeptical when trusted with one side of a story.
But what really worries me is I haven't the slightest clue who the gal is. . . .
Interesting comments. Pursuit of knowledge is most important, regardless of the result. Being wrong is sometimes as important as being right. Even the discovery of penicillin was a by-product of researching staph, not someone trying to discover penicillin.
Point being, if people were as interested in science and the pursuit of knowledge, instead of vacuous celebrity, the world would be a better place. Not saying that entertainment is useless - just saying that it might do the world good to tone down the emphasis!

Did you know 11.09 is Carl Sagan day?
I think it was November 6th as Carl Sagan day, but his birthday is tomorrow.
There were many issues I disagreed with Carl, but I loved his book "The Demon Haunted World" While written a long time ago, I think it still holds.
Well, I know both. Isn't that the way to be -- well-rounded?
